Mashina Vremeni

The Russian group "Mashina Vremeni" (Time Machine) is a cross-generation phenomenon that has provided a huge variety of popular music to the culture-starved millions in the former Soviet Union, from the late 1960's until today. Mashina's style is a mix of Pink Floyd "space odysseys", some Beatles-type tunes, and everything in between. Some "candlelight ballads" and trippy psychedelic rock, as well as tributes to Jimi Hendrix, are thrown in for good measure. Mashina's members have suffered persecution from state officials, for releasing lyrics that very subtly pointed out some things that the totalitarial government would rather not call attention to. However, the band's popular support was so massive that "those KGB bastards" could not shut them down completely. Mashina Vremeni's songs have found their way into movie hits of the 70's and 80's, popular theatrical plays, and even The group's history, lyrics, photos, and more, can be found at the official site: http://www.mashina.ru http://www.mashina.ru
