Masha And Dasha Krivoshlyapova

Masha and Dasha Krivoshlyapova (January 3, 1950 - April 17, 2003) were Russian conjoined twins. Masha and Dasha were born with two heads, four arms and three legs. Their spines were conjoined at 180-degree angle. Doctors told their mother that they had died of pneumonia and took them away. For the next 20 year they were guinea pigs for medical experiments. It took them five years to learn to walk. They were dressed only for press photographs. A vestigial third leg was amputated when they were in their teens. Only one twin was able to control the movement of the legs. The twins lived for 40 years in the Soviet disabled institutions. In 1989 they were released to live in their own home in Moscow. When surgeons offered to separate them, they refused. The twins died at the same time. Krivoshlyapova, Masha and Dasha
