Maryland Gubernatorial Election, 2006

The Maryland gubernatorial election of 2006 will be held on November 7, 2006, and will be a race for the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Maryland. The winning candidates will serve from 2007 to 2011. The incumbent governor, Bob Ehrlich, is the first Republican elected to that position since Spiro Agnew. Ehrlich has the advantage of incumbency, but is expected to face a tough re-election battle in Maryland, a traditionally Democratic state. Additionally, Lt. Governor Michael Steele may not be on the Republican ticket in 2006; he may instead choose to run for the United States Senate seat that is being vacated by Paul Sarbanes.

Candidates

The candidates for Governor and Lieutenant Governor are elected on a joint ticket.
