Martingale (Fastener)

A separate article treats the stochastic processes called martingales; see martingale.
A martingale is a device for fastening a horse's bridle or a dog's collar to have more control over the animal. For a horse, a martingale is a strap that joins the noseband or bit of a horse to its girth. This prevents the horse from throwing its head back, and acts to intensify the action of the bit.
