Marlow Bridge
Marlow Bridge
is a road and foot traffic bridge over the
River Thames
between the town of
Marlow
in the
English
county of
Buckinghamshire
and the village of
Bisham
in the county of
Berkshire
. There has been a bridge on the site since the reign of
King Edward III
. The current bridge is a suspension bridge, designed by
William Tierney Clark
in
1832
, and was a prototype for the nearly identical but larger
Szchenyi Chain Bridge
across the
River Danube
in
Budapest
. The bridge now has a weight restriction on it, and is used only by foot and local road traffic. Its place in the national road network has been taken by the busy modern
Marlow By-pass Bridge
.
