Mark GoodierMark Goodier (born 28th June 1961 in Rhodesia) is one of the most familiar voices on British radio. Goodier became a mobile DJ in Edinburgh and then joined local station Radio Forth at the age of 19. After progressing through several jobs at stations in Scotland and the North East of England, he joined BBC Radio 1 in 1987, beginning a very successful 15 year stint with the station. Goodier was a hit with listeners on the "Liz & Mark" weekend breakfast show, and he quickly progressed to a teatime slot. He hosted The Evening Session from 1990 until 1993. During part of this period, he also presented the UK Top 40 chart countdown on Sunday evenings and was also an established host on Top Of The Pops along with his Radio 1 colleagues. A minor blot on his copybook was the daily chart show Megahits which he also hosted for half an hour each evening, which was ultimately a pointless project to fill a gap between Steve Wright's programme and the network's scheduled main news bulletin. When Simon Mayo took an extended period of paternity leave in 1992, Goodier became his long-term stand-in on the coveted breakfast show and was then confirmed as the permanent host when Mayo decided he did not wish to return to early starts. Goodier only hosted the programme in his own right for a short period before major changes were made and he shifted to afternoons, then back to his old teatime slot. In 1995, he regained the chart show after Bruno Brookes quit the station. After 1997, Goodier took on a Saturday morning slot after quitting daily radio to establish his production company, Wise Buddha Productions (a variation on Budweiser). Ultimately, he spent his final years at Radio 1 only presenting the Top 40 show, before finally severing his links with the station entirely in 2002. Goodier went on to present two separate charts on leaving Radio 1 - the Emap-produced Smash Hits Chart, which is heard on many commercial radio stations at the same time as Radio 1's own chart; and the Classical Chart for Classic FM. He is much in demand as a voiceover artist for adverts which promote new CDs, and is a frequent stand-in on BBC Radio 2 when regular presenters are on leave.
