Marion is a city located in Wisconsin. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,297. The city is located mostly within Waupaca County. A small portion extends into adjacent Shawano County. Geography is located at 44°40'21" North, 88°53'11" West (44.672573, -88.886284). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²). 5.5 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.64% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,297 people, 581 households, and 367 families residing in the city. The population density is 236.2/km² (611.7/mi²). There are 624 housing units at an average density of 113.6/km² (294.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 99.38% White, 0.08% African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.15% from two or more races. 0.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 581 households out of which 25.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% are married couples living together, 7.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.7% are non-families. 32.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.23 and the average family size is 2.82. In the city the population is spread out with 21.2% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.9 males. The median income for a household in the city is $32,344, and the median income for a family is $41,688. Males have a median income of $29,279 versus $21,974 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,391. 6.9% of the population and 3.4% of families are below the poverty line.
