Maria ButirskayaMaria Butirskaya is a Russian figure skater. She was born in Moscow, Russia, on June 28, 1972. She won the women's singles title at the 1999 World Figure Skating Championships, in the process becoming the first Russian-born woman and the oldest woman to win the world title. She won bronze medals at both the 1998 and 2000 World Figure Skating Championships. She finished in fourth place at the 1998 Winter Olympics and placed sixth at the 2002 Winter Olympics. Maria is a 6-time Russian national figure skating champion and a 3-time European figure skating champion.
