margarethe von trotta

Margarethe von Trotta (February 21, 1942, Berlin -) is a German film director and a member of New German Cinema. In her early career, she was an actor, notably in films from both Fassbinder and Volker Schlndorff. In 1971, she divorced her first husband to marry Schlndorff. A few years later, her first feature followed and after that she came to be the foremost female director working in Germany at the time. Although she and Schlndorff later split in 1991, she remains an imporant part of German cinema.
