Marcus OctaviusOctavius was a tribune during the Roman Republic. His is an ancestor to Romes first Emperor Caesar Augustus. For more information of Augustus paternal background refer to Suetonius Augustus Clauses 1-9. He was the closest friend to Tiberius Gracchus. In his character, he was very serious and discreet. Gracchus needed his support for certain laws to pass in senate. Octavius at his time was considered a very influential orator. His rejected this, because the law on land would affect him because of his wealth. The senate later deprived him of his tribuneship, due to this. He was voted out of his position. Out of his despair, a freeman was called to remove him. This shows that Gracchus was more favoured by other wealthy patricians then by less-wealthy and favoured politicians. For more information, refer to Plutarchs account of Tiberius Gracchus.
