Dr.
Marco Marra
is the director of
Canada
's
Michael Smith Genome Science Center
(GCS) located at the
British Columbia Cancer Agency
(BCCA) since
2000
and a leading expert in the field of
genomics
. He was born in
Berwyn, Alberta
on
June 30
,
1966
. He studied at the
Simon Fraser University
in
Burnaby, British Columbia
and received his
Ph.D.
in
genetics
in
1994
. He also holds a
B.Sc.
in molecular and
cell biology
. Among his accomplishments include leading a team of scientists at BCCA that mapped the
SARS Corona
virus genome in
2003
.
