) is a
Colombian
pathologist
who discovered the
vaccine
for
malaria
, a disease transmitted by
mosquitos
that affects millions of people in the Third World every year. The vaccine has been proven to be effective 30-60% of the time for humans over the age of one. He coursed some of his medicine studies in the
National University of Colombia
, received a scholarship to
Yale University
, and subsequently received his PhD from
Rockefeller University
in
New York
. Presently, he is continuing work on improving the vaccine at the
Instituto Nacional de Inmunologa
based in the
Hospital San Juan de Dios
in
Bogot
, Colombia.
