manuel elkin patarroyo

Manuel Elkin Patarroyo (b. November 3, 1947) is a Colombian pathologist who discovered the vaccine for malaria, a disease transmitted by mosquitos that affects millions of people in the Third World every year. The vaccine has been proven to be effective 30-60% of the time for humans over the age of one. He coursed some of his medicine studies in the National University of Colombia, received a scholarship to Yale University, and subsequently received his PhD from Rockefeller University in New York. Presently, he is continuing work on improving the vaccine at the Instituto Nacional de Inmunologa based in the Hospital San Juan de Dios in Bogot, Colombia.
