Manic Episode

A manic episode is a period of unusually high energy, sometimes including uncontrollable excitement. Such episodes most commonly occur as part of bipolar disorder. In extreme cases, the person may need to be hospitalized. Mania is treatable with Lithium carbonate, but patients sometimes resist medication, finding the episodes pleasurable.
