manhuau

Manhuau is a city in the state of Minas Gerais, in Brazil. Population: 50,000.

History

The city was settled in the end of the 19th century by a few families from Europe, among them the Portuguese Dutra and the Swiss Emmerich ones.

Demographics

Manhuau has a main nucleus of around 30,000 inhabitants in a narrow valley among low but quite vertical mountains, and several adjunct villages ranging from a few dozens to 3,000 souls; some of these have recently emancipated. It is mainly Roman Catholic with quite a sizeable Protestant element with a higher than usual Evangelical element, mainly Darbyist and Baptist.

Economy

The economy of the city is based on the production and processing of coffee and milk.
