Recent genetic studies by the Angiosperm Phylogeny Group have greatly expanded the family to about 240-250 genera, including the families Bombacaceae, Sterculiaceae and Tiliaceae previously treated as distinct, including well-known genera such as lindens, kapok, baobabs, and balsa.
