Magna paints
, a line of
acrylic paints
developed by
Leonard Bocour
and
Harry Levison
in
1947
and reformulated in
1960
, are pigments ground in an acrylic resin with
solvents
and a
plasticizer
. Unlike modern water-based acrylics, Magna is miscible with
turpentine
and mineral spirits and dries rapidly to a mat finish. It was used by
Jackson Pollock
and
Roy Lichtenstein
.
