Lynnfield, MassachusettsLynnfield is a town located in Essex County, Massachusetts. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 11,542. History Lynnfield was first settled in 1638 and was officially incorporated in 1814. Geography Lynnfield is located at 42°31'40" North, 71°1'42" West (42.527895, -71.028348). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 27.1 km² (10.5 mi²). 26.3 km² (10.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.24% water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 11,542 people, 4,186 households, and 3,348 families residing in the town. The population density is 439.5/km² (1,137.7/mi²). There are 4,273 housing units at an average density of 162.7/km² (421.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.73% White, 0.43% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.92% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.21% from other races, and 0.67% from two or more races. 0.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 4,186 households out of which 35.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 20.0% are non-families. 17.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.75 and the average family size is 3.13. In the town the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 24.8% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 17.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males. The median income for a household in the town is $80,626, and the median income for a family is $91,869. Males have a median income of $67,005 versus $42,417 for females. The per capita income for the town is $39,560. 2.5% of the population and 1.1% of families are below the poverty line.
