Lngua Geral

Lngua Geral, literally "general language" in Portuguese, served as a common language during the vice-kingdom of Brazil. It was spoken in what is now southern Brazil until the gold rush in Minas dos Matos Gerais, and later until the expulsion of the Jesuits by the Marqus de Pombal in the North. A unified Tup-Guaran influenced by the Jesuits' Latin and the Portuguese of the settlers, it is still spoken by a few isolated river villages in the North.
