Lightweight MTA Authentication Protocol is a generic name for a set of 'designated sender' proposals that were discussed in the ASRG in the Fall of 2003. These include RMX, DMP, SPF, DRIP, MTAMARK and FSV. In March of 2004, the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) held a Birds Of Feather (BOF) on these proposals and as the result of that meeting, chartered a new working group (WG) that to continue standardization of these proposals. This WG is called MARID MTA Authorization Records in DNS. These schemes also known as 'designated sender' attempt to list the valid IP addresses that can send mail for a domain.
