Live in the Classic City brought the highlights of Widespread Panic's April 2000 three-night run in their hometown of Athens, Georgia to compact disc. Released in April 2000 (see 2000 in music), the three disc set featured a mix of originals and cover songs, studded with guest performances from other star performers, including Derek Trucks and Col. Bruce Hampton. The collection revealed the full range of musical styles heard at a Widespread Panic show, from tight hook-laden songs to extended improvisational jams, with six tracks breaking the ten-minute mark.
