List Of Svengalis

This a list of famous Svengalis. A Svengali is defined by Merriam-Webster as "one who attempts usually with evil intentions to persuade or force another to do his bidding." The word comes from the name of the main character in George Du Maurier's novel Trilby. Although some serious, and often very dangerous, people have been called Svengalis it is now most often used about managers of popular music bands that have a great deal of influence on the bands they manage. Naming someone a Svengali can be seen as fairly derogatory, but there is general agreement that certain people are or have been widely characterized as such.
