• Alliance of the New Citizen (Aliancia Novho Občana) - in the government, arose in 2001
• Christian Democratic Movement (Kresťansko-demokratick hnutie) - in the government, arose in 1990
• Civic Conservative Party (Obcianska Konzervativna Strana) - currently outside of the parliament
• Communist Party of Slovakia (Komunistick strana Slovenska) - in the parliament
• Democratic Party (Demokratick strana) - arose in late 1989
• Direction (Party) (Smer)- in the parliament, split from the Strana demokratickej ľavice
• Free Forum (Slobodn frum) - split from the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union in 2004, in the parliament
• Green Party of Slovakia (Strana zelench Slovenska)
• Movement for Democracy (Hnutie za demokraciu) - split from the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia in 2002
• Party of the Hungarian Coalition (Strana maďarskej koalcie - Magyar Koalci Prtja), in the government
• People's Party - Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (Ľudov strana - Hnutie za demokratick Slovensko) - in the parliament, arose in 1991
• People's Union (Ľudov nia) - split from the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia in 2003, in the parliament
• Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (Slovensk demokratick a kresťansk nia) - in the government
• Slovak National Party (Slovensk nrodn strana) - arose in 1990
• Social Democratic Party of Slovakia (Socilnodemokratick strana Slovenska) - arose in 1990, see also Alexander Dubček

• Democratic Party (Demokratick strana) - an important party between 1944 and 1948, this is also a current party
• Democratic Union (Demokratick nia) - in the government between 1998 and 2002, now part of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union
• Communist Party of Slovakia (Komunistick strana Slovenska) - leading force between 1948 and 1989, this is also a current party
• Civic Democratic Union (Občianska demokratick nia) - arose in 1991, its members are now in the Democratic Party and the small Civic Conservative Party (Občianska konzervatvna strana)
• Party of Slovak Revival (Strana slovenskej obrody) - arose in 1948 from the Democratic Party (see above, see also National Front (Czechoslovakia)), ceased in late 1989 when the new Democratic Party was founded (see above)
• Slovak National Party (Slovensk nrodn strana)- in existence between 1870 and 1938, this is also a current party
• Slovak People's Party (Slovensk ľudov strana) - between 1913/1918 and 1945
• Party of Civic Understanding (Strana občianskeho porozumenia) - in the government between 1998 and 2002
• Party of the Democratic Left (Strana demokratickej ľavice) - before 2002, arose in 1990 from the Communist Party of Slovakia
• Union of the Workers of Slovakia (Združenie robotnkov Slovenska) - in the government between 1994 and 1998, split from the Strana demokratickej ľavice
• Public against Violence (Verejnosť proti nsiliu) - the first party after the fall of the Communists in late 1989, ceased in 1991 (split into the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia(HZDS) and the Civic Democratic Union (Občianska demokratick nia, ODU) )
