List Of Parties Contesting The Uk General Election, 2005The UK general election, 2005 will see significant numbers of minor or single issue candidates standing for election. Due to the first past the post electoral system, national fourth parties are rarely sucessful in achieving representation in the House of Commons. A notable exception is the case of regional parties, such as the Scottish National Party or Plaid Cymru, who have gained a number of seats. The impact of minor parties should not be underestimated though. The success of the Green Party in the 1980s led to environmentalism becoming a key issue for the three main parties, while the UKIP is now one of the largest British parties in the Europe Parliament and has greatly advanced the issue of euroscepticism. Nationwide parties Parties with current representation at Westminster Parties with representation at regional, or European level Other Parties English/English Regionalist parties Parties represented at Westminster Other Parties Northern Irish parties Parties represented at Westminster Parties representing N. Irish constituencies at Stormont or European level Other Parties Scottish parties Parties represented at Westminster Parties representing Scottish constituencies at Holyrood or European level Other Parties Welsh parties Parties represented at Westminster Parties representing Welsh constituencies at Cardiff Bay or European level Other Parties
