List Of Mega Man Characters (Zero Series)

This is a list of characters for the Mega Man Zero series.

Main Characters

  • Zero - The main character of the series. Sometimes towards the end of the Mega Man X timeline, Zero put himself into stasis. He was resurrected by Ciel and her Cyber-Elf Passy and now aids the Resistance forces.
  • Ciel - A fugitive from Neo Arcadia, Ciel is a human scientist that holds a leading position in the Reploid Resistance. Once a scientist in Neo Arcadia, she created Copy X, but defected to the Reploid's side after Copy X began his program of extermination against the Reploids in the name of protecting the humans of Neo Arcadia.
  • Copy X - The original ruler of Neo Arcadia, Copy X is a clone of the original Mega Man X. Like the original X, Copy X is dedicated to protecting humanity, which is the reason for him founding the colony of Neo Arcadia. However, Copy X believes that the only way to protect humanity is to brutally suppress Reploids, and as a result Copy X brands all non-Neo Arcadian Reploids to be Mavericks, and has them systematically exterminated through his army of Pantheons and Shitennou enforcers. Like the original X, Copy X can use a variety of different attacks taken from his enemies, and is also equipped with a version of Dr. Light's Ultimate Armor. He is killed by Zero at the end of the original Mega Man Zero. In Mega Man Zero 3, Copy X is resurrected as an unwitting puppet of Dr. Weil. Weil manipulates and eventually kills him, seizing control of Neo Arcadia for himself.
    • Seraph X - Copy X's final form in the first game. Seraph X has no legs, but he does have a large pair of mechanical angel wings that allow him to levitate high above the battlefield (above Zero's jumping range). Not terribly powerful, but extremely cheap since you fight him over a spiked pit on a small platform.
    • Copy X Mk II - Revived by Dr. Bairu/Weil. He is not complete and talks strangely (puts emphasis on strange syllables in Japanese, stutters in English). You fight him midway through the game in Megaman Zero 3, but he has no second form this time (because Dr. Weil boobytrapped him so that he would explode if he tried to access his Seraph form).
  • Cyberelf X - This is the original Mega Man X. Having sacrificed his body to imprison the Dark Elf, X lives on as a ghostly CyberElf. He can also manifest as a holographic version of his original robot form, dressed in a white robe (which seems to reflect the culmulation of the pacifistic direction his character is headed in the main series). He aides Zero throughout the series, but being so old his power reserves are extremely low, and he eventually leaves the physical world, entrusting the future of the planet to Zero.
  • Elpis/Elpizo - The new leader of the Resistance forces in the second game. Elpizo is a former Neo Arcadian Reploid who was banished and came to work for the Resistance. Physically, he bears a strong resemblance to Zero, with red armor and long blonde hair. He and Ciel are on the same side but have divergent goals and ideas; Elpizo believes that there is no reasoning with Neo Arcadia and they they must be destroyed, while Ciel believes that, once she solves the energy crises, Neo Arcadia will become peaceful. Elpizo goes insane after all his comrades are killed in a failed raid on Neo Arcadia, and ends up seeking to unseal the Dark Elf, which transforms him into a more dangerous, evil form and then into:
    • Dark Elpizo - The final boss of the second game. He's not actually that difficult, as long as you keep your distance and watch when he throws at you. When he is defeated, the Dark Elf will reveal some of her true nature and restore him to life, turning him into a Cyber Elf.
  • Dark Elf - The mother of all Cyber Elves, used to end the Maverick Wars. The Dark Elf has the power to control the minds of all Reploids. In the Maverick Wars, this power was used to finally eliminate the Maverick virus, but Weil twisted the Elf's power in an attempt to conquer the world. Dr. Bairu/Weil "cursed" her, and she was put under a seal by X himself, using his own body. Elpizo undid the seal and released her, and now Neo Arcadia is after her. The Dark Elf is not truly evil, and her true form is the Mother Elf, seen briefly after Dark Elpizo's defeat and at the end of the third game.
  • Baby Elves: Prea and Crea/Preer and Creer - These Cyber Elves consider the Dark Elf their mother, and are constantly trying to catch up to her. Bairu deludes them into thinking he is on their side, and the two fight Zero twice during the third game. Crea seems to control ice, while Prea uses fire, but they have no elemental weaknesses. Their Japanese names are Creer and Preer, French words for "create" and "pray" respectively.
  • Dr. Bairu/Weil - A scientist in Neo Arcadia. He rebuilds Copy X and fluently encourages Neo Arcadia to crush the Resistance. Bairu created the giant Omega, and apparently was exiled from Neo Arcadia a hundred years ago along with his monstrous creation. In Mega Man Zero 3, Weil rebuilds Copy X, who grants Weil a pardon and allows him back into Neo Arcadia out of gratitude. Weil manipulates Copy X, and eventually seizes control of Neo Arcadia for himself. Dr. Weil's plan to conquer the world using Omega and the Dark Elf is foiled by Zero and the Shitennou in Mega Man Zero 3, but Weil remains the ruler of Neo Arcadia and still presents a threat to the planet. There is much speculation that Bairu/Weil may actually be Doctor Wily, though no hard evidence as of yet. Physically, Weil bears very little resemblance to Wily (he has a crew-cut, a goatee, and a large beak-like nose, and dresses like a religious figure with a black robe and a tall cone-shaped hat), but he behaves extremely similarly to Wily.
  • Omega - Dr. Weil's ultimate creation, Omega is a massive Reploid who is supposed to be the most powerful Reploid in existance. Zero and X defeated him to end the Maverick Wars. Only seen in the third game, Omega is introduced in the first level. After Weil's experiments with the Mother Elf (Turning her into the Dark Elf), both Omega and its creator were banished into space for a century. You battle Omega four times, the first simply being a preliminary form, the second an upgraded form, the third after Omega has merged with the Dark Elf's power. In his final form, Dr.Weil reveals that Omega is Zero's original body which you will have to destroy to finish the game.
  • The Shitennou - One of the four Shitennou ("heavenly kings"), a series of reploids modeled on X, and which serve as his guardians. They each control an element and carry a weapon analogous to one of Zero's: Harpuia's twin blades mimic the Zetsabre/Z-Saber, Leviathan's spear is analogous to the Triple Rod, Fefnir's twin cannons Sodom and Gomorrah are equivalent to the Buster Shot, and Phantom's fuuma shuriken is like the Shield Boomerang. The Shitennou are fierce adversaries in the first two games, but in the third game they help Zero (though they are still opposed to him) against Omega.
    • Harpuia - Harpuia is the unofficial leader of the Shitennou (after the events of MMZ1) and controls wind/electricity. Harpuia is honorable and dedicated to his cause: protecting humans in Neo Arcadia from Maverick attacks. He only fights Ciel and the Resistance because they are against Neo Arcadia, not because he actively hates them. In fact, he is responsible for bringing Zero safely back to the Resistance Base in the second game, and plays a crucial role in the third against Omega. Harpuia looks and sounds very feminine (voiced by Oogata Megumi, the seiyuu for Sailor Uranus and Ikari Shinji), and many American players still debate whether he is male or female. His name is probably a reference to the Harpies of Greek myth, and in katakana is rendered "ha-ru-pyu-i-a."
    • Leviathan - The only female among the Shitennou, Leviathan controls water and ice and prefers to fight underwater. She is mischeivous and likes to tease Zero; some have speculated that she has a kind of love/hate attraction to or obsession with him. Her name is obviously a reference to the Biblical Leviathan, and in katakana is rendered "re-va-i-a-ta-n" (the "v" series is formed by adding " and a subscript vowel to the katakana "u").
    • Fefnir - Bloodthirsty and eager to fight, Fefnir controls fire and attacks with two huge cannons, Sodom and Gomorrah. He has a special brand of antagonism for Zero, though in recent times this seems to be changing to respected rivalry. Fefnir's name is only one letter away from the dragon Fafnir, however it is noted that his Japanese name is Fafnir.
    • Phantom - The mysterious ninja-like guardian, Phantom has no element (though logically he should control Wood, Earth, or Metal). He is the least-developed character of the Shitennou, probably because he died in the first game...though he *may* just return in the third game if you know where to look... Note: Some fans say that Phantom spies on the SHiten

Enemies and Bosses

  • Pantheon - The standard soldier/grunt enemy; these are weak, mass-produced replicas of X's original design. They look just like X...with giant red cyclops' eyes instead of faces. There are several types:
    • Hunters - These are the most common type. They carry around a cannon that shoots three buster shots in a row. One hit can kill them usually.
    • Guardians - The Enforcers are made of sterner stuff than the cannon-carrying type and take more than one hit to kill. They wield an electric baton, which is a short-range but powerful attack.
    • Fliers - This type wears a jetpack and shoots single shots at you in the air. They can be hard to hit and take a lot of abuse.
    • Alarmers - Found only in one mission, these are green and have a brightly-glowing eye. If they spot you, other Pantheon troops are summoned.
    • Bashers - These have one giant fist, which they dash at you with, hoping to knock you flying. They're very strong, but not as tough as they look.
    • Fists - These are like Bashers but they have both giant fists. Possibly upgraded versions of the Bashers.
  • Golem - A standard, giant enforcer-type Reploid of Neo Arcadia's forces. Untyped versions appear in the first game, and elemental ones (Type Electric, Fire, and Ice) in the second. The elemental ones are weak against the usual types, and have unique attacks: Type E has lasers, type F has flamethrowers, and type I has cannons that shoot giant icicles and snowballs.
  • Aztec Falcon - Harpuia's servant reploid and mount in the first game. Falcon oversees the Disposal Center, and is the first boss you fight. He drops the Thunder Chip.
  • Maha Ganeshariff - Occupies the remains of the laboratory where Zero was found and guards important data needed by the Resistance. Ganesh is an elephant-headed Hindu god, and Maha Ganeshariff does indeed look like an elephant. Ganesh is weak to electric attacks.
  • Anubis Necromancess III - Fefnir's subordinate in the first game. He is found in the desert, and tries to stop Zero from rescuing the injured Resistance soldiers in the downed carrier. He is based on the Egyptian god of embalming, Anubis, and looks like a mechanical, anthropomorphic jackal in Egyption funeral garb. His attacks make use of stone sarcophagi and zombie reploids, as well as an Egyptian-looking staff under (telekinetic?) long-range control. He is oddly weak against fire. Later in the series, Wiel resurrects him as Anubis Necromances V and changed his element to thunder. Anubis also gained the new ability to control the shape of the terrain around him.
  • Pantheon Core - A Pantheon (X-Clone) manning the train's engine/attack system. Extremely dangerous, with a tendency to raise the floor you're standing on into the spiked ceiling or shoot huge gouts of flame at you. It idoesn't move and is weak against electric attacks, which you may or may not have at the point of the game where you fight it. The Z-Saber is most effective in dealing damage, but it puts you at risk of being hit.
  • Orochi Arm - A floating wheel in the factory stage. It can extend 2 "arms" at a time, each of which is outfitted with a dragon head that has its own elemental attack. They can shoot fire, ice, or electricity at you, or just try to bite/ram you in the case of the non-elemental one. Its weak spot is the core, but you can shear the arms off too (they'll be replaced eventually though).
  • Giant Mechaniloid - This battle is a race against time. The boss is a giant, spiky bulldozer/attack unit with three main weak spots. Eliminate it as fast as possible, before it gets to the resistance Base.
  • Blizzack Staggroff - Leviathan's subordinate, this is a large, Ice-typed Reploid with twin vented cannons for hands and antlers made of ice. It can freeze you in place, and also jumps incredibly high, landing with a violent impact. The Fire chip will make short work of him though.
  • Hanumachine - Phantom's subordinate. Hanumachine is a pun on Hanuman (Son Goku) a monkey god who wielded an expanding staff and could create clones of himself from his hair, which are two of the attacks his mechanical counterpart uses. He is Fire-typed, so use the Thunder chip against him.
  • Herculious Anchortus - A giant beetle-like reploid. Weak against Ice. Not much is known about him, but he has a brother (Kuwagust Anchortus) who appears in the second game and fights alongside him.
  • Asura Bazura - An unnamed reploid with many arms and swords. It tries to stop you from going deeper into Neo Arcadia. It's weak against Electricity.
  • Pantheon Aces - These look like statues, but will come to life and attack. Destroy them as quickly as possible; they don't seem to have any weaknesses. They are high-grade versions of the Pantheon Fliers.
  • Bio-Devil/Rainbow Devil - What Megaman series would be complete without a Devil boss? Like all of them, its weak point is its core. Stay on the walls and hit him when it's safe, dodging everything it throws at you.
  • Hyleg Ourobuckle - A snake-looking Reploid who is in charge of the Forest of Dysis. He fights on a platform that constantly shifts and reconfigures itself, making the battle harder for you. He has no weaknesses. He is probably named after Midgarsormr, or perhaps his name is a pun on Ouroboros, the name of a dragon.
  • Poler Kamrous - A giant, polar-bear-like Reploid who guards Neo Arcadia's Antarctic branch of computers. He's not too fast, or too bright, so feel free to wail away on him with Fire attacks.
  • Panther Flauclaws - This Reploid guards Neo Arcadia's supply convoy. He's pretty fast and controls electricity, and you fight him while jumping between two trains in a head-on view. Attack him with Ice when it's safe, and keep your distance, especially when he's low on health.
  • Phoenix Magnion - Guards the Power Plant. He has a wide variety of attacks, all very powerful and difficult to dodge, so take him out as quickly as possible using the Zetsaber with the Thunder chip equipped. Many of his attacks will immobilize you for the duration if they connect, but if you approach him while holding a charge he will usually teleport away and reappear in a vulnerable state.
  • Kuwagust Anchortus - Younger brother of Herculious Anchortus; fights you solo the first time and with Herculious the second. Use the Ice chip and get rid of him as fast as possible; he's the bigger threat of the two and he's just as dangerous when you fight him solo.
  • Bairu Hachishinkan/Weil's Eight Numbers - Eight Reploids who have human and combat forms, Dr. Bairu/Weil's equivalent of the Shitennou. They are the eight main bosses of the third game.
    • Blazin' Flizard - Vaguely resembles a frilled lizard in combat form. This Reploid uses flamethrowers, fireballs, and his own collar to attack, and is weak against electricity. He drops the Fire Body.
    • Childre Inarabbita - A small, blue, rabbit-like Reploid. Inarabbita is male, and gets very angry when someone calls him a kid. He controls Ice and can create sharp objects out of it, and she also pilots a submarine which you must chase (outrun, really) through the level. His talents also include hopping vertically *up* the walls of his room, in apparent defiance of gravity. He drops the Ice Body.
    • Hellbat Silt - Changed to Devilbat Schilt in the U.S. version. This sinister Reploid can teleport at will and controls electricity. He can jam the sensors of other Reploids, creating a kind of temporary pseudostealth, and can make holographic copies of himself. He is weak against Ice, but his constant teleporting nullifies many attacks. He drops the Thunder Body.
    • Deathtanz Mantisk - A giant, mantis-like reploid who wields the "shinigami no kama" (scythes of the god of death). He has no weaknesses and his movement is extremely hard to predict. He does, however, leave himself vulnerable during many of his attacks, so use that time to get behind him and cause damage. He drops the Light Body, which allows Zero to ignore damaged or sinking terrain.
    • Kyuubit Foxtar - The only female among the Hachishinkan. Foxtar is a Fire-typed Reploid modeled after the Japanese kitsune demon, which is a spirit fox with nine tails ("kyuu" = "nine" in Japanese). She can manipulate mysterious purple flames and even turn herself into 5 giant fireballs that cover the entire room. She also has a midair flip that makes it hard to attack her, and can set pieces of the floor on fire for a few seconds with her falling fireballs. Use the Thunder Chip to defeat her.
    • Glacier Le Cactank - Arguably the easiest boss in the game. He's big, slow, has very little range, and is weak against Fire. Use the charged Zetsabre with the Fire Chip and stay out of reach of his flailing arms.
    • Volteel Biblio - The guardian of the submerged library, Volteel Biblio was made to work in electrified water and is weak against ice, not electricity. He's a little insane (notice the maniacal laughter), and doesn't have much of a battle strategy. He pops his head and tail in and out of holes; smack the head, avoid the tail and the slow-moving ball of electricity it puts out. When low on health, he wll emerge and electrocute the entire room; at this point, one charged slash to the head should finish him, so have it ready and jump before his tail hits the floor.
    • Tretesta Cerberian - There is some dispute as to the proper translation of his name. The U.S. version uses "Tretista Kelverian." While the katakana are "ke-ru-be-ri-a-n" and "Kelverian" is one possible direct romanization, he *does* have three canine-looking heads... Cerberian has no element, but he's by far the largest of the Hachishinkan in combat form and his two side heads can be deployed as separate attack units. He also has a triple-layered lifebar, instead of the double-layered one most bosses have. In addition, most parts of him are immune to damage; you'll have to hit him in the head to hurt him, so the Zetsabre is probably your best bet. Luckily most of his attacks are easy to dodge, so play carefully and you should have no trouble. Note: The two side heads, when deployed, can be attacked to cause further damage to him. So he can take damage from them as well.
