list of cities in thailand

Thailand divides cities into three categories:

Nakhon (City): More than 50,000 citizen, population density higher than 3,000 per km
Mueang (Town): More than 10,000 citizen, population density higher than 3,000 per km - or a provincial capital
Tambon tesaban (Township): More than 7,000 citizen, population density higher than 1,500 per km

Additionally to the population numbers the municipality needs to have enough income to be able to perform the tasks assigned for the level. The national capital Bangkok and the special city Pattaya are outside this division.
