Lirael

Lirael is a fantasy novel by Garth Nix, first published in 2001. It is the second in his Old Kingdom series, preceded by Sabriel and continued in Abhorsen. When a dangerous necromancer threatens to unleash a long-buried evil, Lirael and Prince Sameth are drawn into a battle to save the Old Kingdom and reveal their true destinies joining them are mysterious strange creatures known as Mogget and Dog. As the Abhorsen-In-Waiting, Prince Sameth must take after his mother and learn as much as he can about being an Abhorsen. He finds this extremely difficult to do and finds himself running away from his responsibility as well as the expectations of his parents as well as the Kingdom. Lirael on the other hand is trying her utmost best to be a proper Clayr although she lacks the Sight which is the main thing which identifies one as a Daughter Of The Clayr. Faced with their own problems as well as the rising threat of the Necromancer, their paths cross and the events which unfold change their supposed futures drastically.
