East Germany
. Like the other parties in the
National Front
it had 52 representatives in the
Volkskammer
. Originally it was a
liberal party
, but after 1949 it had to obey communist rule. Around the
German Reunification
it returned to liberalism and merged with the
Free Democratic Party
.
