Li Hongzhi

Li Hongzhi (李洪志) (July 7 1952/May 13 1951-) is the founder of Falun Gong. He resides in Brooklyn, New York. Hongzhi's real birthdate is somewhat disputed. While he claims that he was born on May 13 1951, authorities claim that he was actually born on July 7 1952, and that he lied about his birthdate so that it would be the same as Budhism's founder Sakyamuni. Hongzhi was born in Gongzhuling, Jilin Province, China. The Falun Dafa Spiritual movement could be said to have begun May 13, 1992, at the Fifth Middle School, Changchun City, China.

Notes

"Who is Li Hongzhi?", BBC News, (8 May 2001, 11:55 GMT) "The authorities have accused him of backdating date of birth from 7 July 1952 to 13 May 1951 so he could share the birthday of Buddhism's founder, Sakyamuni."
