Leuce

A nymph in Greek mythology, Leuce was raped by Hades, the god of the dead. He turned her into a white poplar tree or aspen tree after her death. It is also sometimes said that Persephone, goddes of the Underworld and Hades' wife was the one responsible for her transformation. The poplar is sacred to Persephone.
Leuce (White) is also the name the Greeks used for Snake Island in the Black Sea.
