Lee (English Name)

Lee is a common family name in English-speaking countries. Charles Lee, Robert E. Lee, and Henry Lee were well-known generals in the United States. They are believed to have been connected remotely with the prominent Lee family of England known as the 'Lee of Quarrendon' family, with leopards on their coats of arms. Many families have named their children with a first or middle name of Lee, in honor of an ancestor or friend, but often for Robert E. Lee. See also Henry Lee for more people of that name. Lee is also a common given name for boys in English-speaking countries. Some famous people who have Lee as a given name include Lee Van Cleef, Lee Majors and Lee Marvin. A number of places in the US have been named for the various famous people named Lee: In the UK the reverse is probably true: a family name of Lee derives from a place name. See Lee for a list of some.
