Some of Lapras' notable attacks are ice beam and water gun. Lapras have the ability to communicate telepathically with humans, as seen in Pokmon episode "Holiday Hi-Jinx." In that episode, a Lapras worked for Santa Claus and helped Ash return Santa's lost boot and lost Jynx. Lapras became a permanent part of the Pokmon television series during the Orange Island League episodes. Ash Ketchum befriended a lost Lapras that had been separated from his family. When Ash found Lapras, he was being abused by a bunch of punks on the beach. Lapras did not trust Ash at first, but eventually warmed up to him. As usual, Ash never intends to keep any of his Pokemon and eventually returned the Lapras to his family. Lapras ferried Ash and his friends around the Orange Islands during their wacky adventures. In Pokmon Red, Blue, and Yellow, you receive Lapras as a gift after chasing off Team Rocket in Saffron City. In Pokmon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, you can get one Lapras every Friday in the tunnel between Violet City and Azalea Town. Lapras isn't avaliable in Ruby or Sapphire, but can be traded over from Fire Red or Leaf Green, where you get it the same way as in Red/Blue/Yellow, but can also be found in the wild on the cave on Island 4. Lapras is also used by Lorelei of the Elite Four. Her Lapras doesn't appear in the anime under unknown circumstances. Lapras is popular for its high HP and the range of moves it can learn. Name origin The Japanese name - Rapurasu (in kana it's ラプラス) - comes from French, La Place, referring to Lapras' kind services of ferrying people across water. The English name is just the Japanese one transcribed.
