LandsvirkjunLandsvirkjun is the national electricity company of the Republic of Iceland. It was founded by the city of Reykjavk and the state of Iceland. Its general purpose is to produce and provide electricity for heavy industry and to sell electricity to smaller providers around Iceland including Orkuveita Reykjavkur (also known as OR) Reykjavk Energy and Iceland State Electricity (RARIK). The electricity network of Landsvirkjun Landsvirkjun owns and runs the main electricity network of Iceland. The network is a circular network so if one main line gets disconnected because of icing or for some other reasons, the network continues to provide electricity to the public and the heavy industry of Iceland. Power plants of Landsvirkjun Landsvirkjun has eleven power plants, mostly hydro-power plants and steam-power plants and also a couple of oil powered stations for spare power. These stations include Bjarnarflag (3 MW), Blndust (150 MW), Brfellsst (273 MW), Hrauneyjafossst (210 MW), Krflust (60 MW), Laxrstvar (28 MW), Sigldsust (150 MW), Sogsstvar (89 MW), Straumsvk (35 MW), Sultartangast (120MW) and Vatnsfellsst (90MW). Landsvirkjun has one power hydro-power plant under construction in eastern Iceland at this time and it will be called Krahnjkavikrjun after two mountains near the plant. It will be the biggest hydro-power plant in Europe and will provide 690MW Power for an aluminium plant in the town of Reyarfjrur.
