Lake HaliAccording to the writings of Robert W. Chambers in his book of horror short stories titled The King in Yellow, Lake Hali is located on an unspecified planet somewhere in the Hyades near the ancient and mysterious city of Carcosa. Lake Hali was later referenced in stories by H. P. Lovecraft and his admirers, who used the city of Carcosa in various stories of the Cthulhu Mythos, where it was claimed to be the home of the god Hastur. The name Hali, (as well as the city of Carcosa) was apparently originally taken from Ambrose Bierce's short story An Inhabitant of Carcosa, where Hali is the author of a quote which prefaces the story. It is possible that the Hali referred to is in fact the Urdu poet Maulana Hali. The narrator of the story implies that the person named Hali is now dead (at least, in the timeline of the story).
