Lake County, OhioLake County is a county located in the state of Ohio. As of 2000, the population is 227,511. Its county seat is Painesville6 and is named for its position on Lake Erie. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,535 km² (979 mi²). 591 km² (228 mi²) of it is land and 1,944 km² (751 mi²) of it is water. The population density is 385/km² (997/mi²). There are 93,487 housing units at an average density of 158/km² (410/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.40% White, 1.99% Black or African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.90% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.66% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 1.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 89,700 households out of which 31.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.10% are married couples living together, 10.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.30% are non-families. 25.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.80% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.03. In the county, the population is spread out with 24.20% under the age of 18, 7.30% from 18 to 24, 29.70% from 25 to 44, 24.70% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 94.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.50 males. The median income for a household in the county is $48,763, and the median income for a family is $57,134. Males have a median income of $40,916 versus $28,434 for females. The per capita income for the county is $23,160. 5.10% of the population and 3.50% of families are below the poverty line.
