Lake Buchanan
Lake Buchanan
was formed by the construction of
Buchanan Dam
by the
Lower Colorado River Authority
to provid a water supply for the region and to provide
hydroelectric power
. With the completion of
Buchanan Dam
in
1939
,
Lake Buchanan
was the first of the
Texas Highland Lakes
to be formed and, because it covers over 22,000 acres (89 km²), is also the largest one. The Lake provides not only one of the best areas for outdoor recreation, it also serves as the winter home for over 25
American Bald Eagles
.
