Geography to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 154.2 km² (59.5 mi²). 144.4 km² (55.8 mi²) of it is land and 9.8 km² (3.8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 6.35% water. Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 1,064 people, 418 households, and 318 families residing in the town. The population density is 7.4/km² (19.1/mi²). There are 524 housing units at an average density of 3.6/km² (9.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.65% White, 0.19% African American, 0.56% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 1.13% from two or more races. 0.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race. There are 418 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.7% are married couples living together, 5.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% are non-families. 20.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 2.93.
