Lai King (Mtr)

Lai King (荔景站) is an MTR station located in Lai King. It is between Mei Foo and Kwai Fong stations. Lai King opened in 1982, originally serving as part of the Tsuen Wan Line. The station was designed to serve the large public housing complex located above the station, as well as the container terminal on the coast to the southwest of the station. When the Lantau Airport Railway was proposed, Lai King was chosen to be the interchange between the Tsuen Wan Line and the Tung Chung Line. During the course of construction, the layout of the station was greatly altered. The northbound Tsuen Wan Line track was raised to a new level above the original station, providing cross-platform interchange with the northbound Tung Chung Line. Similar platform arrangements were constructed for southbound tracks. The original Tsuen Wan Line track was abandoned from the sidings south of the station to a little bit north of it. A pair of tracks were also constructed for the non-stopping Airport Express.
