Laburnum Railway Station, Melbourne

Laburnum (station code: LAB) is an unmanned railway station on the Lilydale and Belgrave lines in Melbourne, Australia, opened in 1958. It has 2 platforms with a substantial brick building on the citybound platform, and a small brick shelter on the outbound platform. It is located in Metcard ticketing Zone 2. It was named after the high vegetation of Laburnum bushes in the area. The station has not been staffed since the 1990s. Both platforms are accessible via Hillside Crescent, Thiele Court and Laburnum Street in Blackburn. There is a small unmade carpark off Thiele Ct, which is normally full on weekdays. Access to platform 1 is only obtained by walking through a track next to a park. The station is fully wheelchair accessible, as access to both platforms is primarily by ramps. Most of the station is held up by steel stilts, however both platforms extend over the Laburnum St rail bridge, and part of platform 2 is held up by concrete blocks. It is possible the station will be rebuilt or relocated as part of the Middleborough Road Grade Seperation Project, in which the level crossing adjacent to the station will be removed and the track put either above or underground.
