Kurayoshi, Tottori

Kurayoshi (倉吉市; -shi) is a city located in the northern part of Tottori, Japan. As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 49,041 and the density of 281.04 persons per km². The total area is 174.50 km². In the ancient the provincial government of Hoki province was located in this area. Today the relics of provincial government and two monastries can be found. A hill called Uchikoshiyama is located and in the medieval there was a castle. The city was founded on October 1, 1953 though, there have been a traditional town and the city street remains well the atmospere of Edo period. There are many soil lacquard warehouse (dozo, 土蔵) in Japanese style. Ssn'in Line of JR West Japan serves the city and provides the connection to other major cities in Tottori and to cities in other regions like Kyoto or Osaka. There are also long distance bus connection between Kobe, Hiroshima, Fukuoka and Tokyo.
