Koo Self Defense

Koo Self Defense is a martial art training system developed by Roger Koo in 1992. The purpose of the system is to improve fitness and health, and prepare the student for real-world fighting situtations. Roger Koo, with a background in Tae Kwon Do and Choi Kwang-Do, felt that too many martial arts focus on perfecting techniques and forms, which would translate poorly into reallife fighting and streetfighting situations. Koo Self Defense instead focuses on improving fitness and developing devastating kicking and punching power, while helping each individual student develop his or her own style. The training consists of bodyweight exercises in many variations, like pushups, stomach-crunches and ropeskipping, yoga stretching exercises for flexibility, and high-intensity punching and kicking drills, with hand-held pads and punching bags for resistance.
