Knigsberg CathedralKnigsberg cathedral was the main church of old Knigsberg and nowadays, it is still a landmark of modern Kaliningrad. The Knigsberg cathedral was first mentioned in the historical documents in 1333. Probably, the building of the cathedral began a few years before this date. Many of the Knigsberg university (Albertina) professors were buried in Knigsberg cathedral, including Immanuel Kant. During the bombardments of World War II the cathedral was heavily damaged. It was not restored after the war, because the Soviet authorities were not interested in the pre-war history of Kaliningrad. Only forty years later, in the early nineties, were the restoration works started. The cathedral was restored as a cultural center, with a concert hall for classical and religious music, a museum, and two chapels: Orthodox and Lutheran.
