Kis-kkll

Kis-Kkllő is the name of a historic administrative county (comitatus) of the Kingdom of Hungary. Its territory is presently in central Romania (central Transylvania). Kis-Kkllő is the Hungarian name for the river Trnava Mică. The capital of the county was Trnăveni (Romanian, Dicsőszentmrton in Hungarian).

Geography

Kis-Kkllő county shared borders with the Hungarian counties Als-Fehr, Torda-Aranyos, Maros-Torda, Udvarhely and Nagy-Kkllő. The river Mureş/Maros formed part of its northern border, the river Trnava Mare/Nagy-Kkllő its southern border. The river Trnava Mică/Kis-Kkllő flows through the county. Its area was 1724 km² around 1910.

History

Kis-Kkllő county was formed when the county Kkllő was split in 1876, when the administrative structure of Transylvania was changed. In 1918 (confirmed by the Treaty of Trianon 1920), the county became part of Romania. Its territory lies in the present Romanian counties Mureş (a.o. Trnăveni), Alba (the south-west) and Sibiu (the south, a.o. Dumbrăveni).
