Kingsford, New South Wales

Kingsford is a suburb in Sydney, Australia, that falls under the authority of Randwick council. Its postal code is 2032. Kingsford lies directly south of the University of New South Wales in Kensington, and many of the residents are students living in medium density housing. The suburb also has a substantial Indonesian community. A large Australian Army depot lies in the east of Kingsford. Kingsford is named after the famous Australian Aviator Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith (it also lay directly below the flight path to Kingsford Smith International Airport. It also has a large Greek population (post-1950s) and the largest Greek Orthodox Church in the Eastern Suburbs (Sydney). At the centre of Kingsford (on Anzac Pde/Gardeners Road) there is a large roundabout connecting an excellent public transport system to 9 possible destinations via bus. For this reason the centre of Kingsford (at the roundabout) is sometimes referred to as 9-ways. Kingsford is part of a Labor (ALP) stronghold and is currently represented by ex-rock star Peter Garrett (Midnight Oil).
