Kings Of Convenience

Erlend ye and Eirik Glambek Be, also known as the musical group Kings of Convenience, are an indie folk-pop duo from Bergen, Norway, known for their delicate tunes, calming voices, and intricately subtle guitar melodies. ye plays guitar, while Be sings mainly and plays as well. Erlend and Eirik were both born in 1975, and have known each other since the age of eleven. At sixteen, they played together in the band Skog ("forest") with two other friends, releasing one EP before breaking up and later forming the Kings duo. The twosome found the American label Kindercore after appearing in European festivals during the summer of 1999. In 2001, they released their debut album Quiet Is the New Loud. This was very successful and even gave name to a the small movement of musicians in the pop underground trying to focus on more subtle melodies and messages. Turin Brakes was one of these bands, others were often connected to the Twisted Nerve label. The remix album Versus came out shortly after the debut. After this breakthrough year, not much was heard from the band. ye spent the next few years living in Berlin and doing solo material. It was not until 2004 that the follow-up to Quiet... was released.
