King's Bounty

King's Bounty is a turn-based fantasy PC game designed for DOS developed by Jon Van Caneghem of New World Computing in 1990. The story line involves your character (you can choose from Knight, Paladin, Sorcerer or Barbarian) collecting the 'King's Bounty' on a series of fantasy villains. Each villain has a piece of the puzzle, allowing you to reveal where the stolen Sceptre of Order is hidden. However, the game has a turn-limit in which the sceptre must be recovered. Throughout the course of the game the King pays you a varying sum of money for what you have accomplished, as well as the bounty for each villain you capture. The number of troops you command depands on your leadership score (which can be increased by gifting your troops with a portion of the spoils). As you progress, you move to progressively more difficult to conquer continents (starting with the rather prosaically named 'Continentia').
