Kilotonne

Strictly, a kilotonne is a thousand tonnes, as distinct from a kiloton - a thousand imperial tons. Explosive effect is traditonally measured in kilotons (or megatons) of TNT equivalent. E.G. a twenty kiloton weapon would have power equivalent to twenty thousand tons of TNT. However, use of the words kilotonne and megatonne in this context has been increasing, often inaccurately.
