Khanate (Band)Khanate is a project from Stephen O'Malley of Sunn O))), Burning Witch and the Lotus Eaters. It brings him together with James Plotkin and Alan Dubin, two members of the defunct band OLD. It is rather similar, maybe an evolution, of O'Malley's previous band Burning Witch. The band produces songs that are often exceed the 10 minute mark, and are characterised by harsh layers of feedback combined with vocalist Alan Dubin's torturous vocals, which consist of extremely painful (to the listener - and presumably Dubin's voicebox) shrieking and screaming. Even though doom metal itself is obscure, unprofitable, and even boring to the mass market, Khanate narrows that market even further, with even most doom fans being turned away by the severity of the vocals and the abusive atmosphere. Currently the band appears to be on their rest period with O'Malley turning his attention back to Sunn O))) for the time being. A new album should not be far away, since 2001 and 2003 saw the band's previous albums emerge. Members Discography External links
