Keio

Keiō (慶応) was a Japanese era after Genji and before Meiji, spanning from May 1, 1865 to October 22, 1868. The reigning emperors were Komei and Meiji. Keio University was named after this era name.

Change of Era

Due to the rebellion at Hamaguri Gate, on May 1, Genji 2 (1865), the era was changed to Keiō (roughly "Jubilant answer"?)
