Kbnt

KBNT is a Spanish language television station in San Diego, California. KBNT was launched in 1989 as channel 19, with a transmitter on Mount Palomar, some 45 miles north of the center of San Diego. The original KBNT offices were in Mira Mesa, California, north of San Diego. At that time, San Diegans could receive the channel only by cable, because its weak broadcastsignal could not reach the city. Eventually the station increased its transmitting power and its signal, while still not reaching San Diego proper, could be picked up in Escondido, San Marcos, Vista y Fallbrook. In 1994, KBNT reached an agreement with NBC San Diego to retransmit its programs on channel 62 in La Jolla, and some years later on channel 17 National City, allowing the signal to reach San Diego, National City, and Chula Vista. The original channel 19 went off the air, retaining the signals on channel 17 and 62, and adding a signal on channel 49 in northern San Diego county. Since 1995, KBNT has carried the programming of Univision San Diego, based in Kearny Mesa. The station is now owned by Entravision Communications.
