Karad

Karad is a town in Satara district of western Maharashtra. This is the place of the confluence of Koyna River and Krishna River. This place is one of the main educational centers in Maharashtra. It is called the "sugar-bowl" of Maharashtra owing to the presence of many sugar factories in and around Karad. Yashwantrao Chavhan, an eminent Congress party politician, who served as defence minister, finance minister and home minister of India, hailed from Karad.
